Our Serious Illness Conversation (SIC) trainings are interprofessional and geared towards helping providers build and/or enhance the language and skills needed to engage patients in Serious Illness Conversations more confidently. These conversations about goals, priorities and values help ensure that patients get the care they want, eliminate care that they don’t want, and enhance their quality of life in late-stage illness.
Upon completion of this training, participants will be able to:
Demonstrate and practice using the Serious Illness Conversation Guide
Demonstrate and practice a few communication skills
Use of wish/worry statements that help align providers with patients
Identifying and exploring emotions
Use of “what else” and “tell me more” to deepen the conversation
Target Audience:
RNs, MDs, PAs, SWs, Pharmacists, Psychologists, and other members of the Healthcare Team

Credits Awarded:
To earn 2.0 contact hours for CE, you must register via the Continuum website, attend the entire program, and complete the evaluation, after which a certificate with contact hours will be emailed to you.

Accreditation:
In support of improving patient care, Mass General Brigham is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Trainings are 2-hours and are held in-person or virtually via Zoom. Session size is limited.
